“Next to knowing when to seize an opportunity, the most important thing in life is to know when to forego an advantage.” Benjamin Disraeli

A browser is your window to the web.
It's that icon that you click when you want to find something on the Internet.
But you probably don't realise that there's more than one browser available.
Let's take a look at a couple of alternatives....
If you have a PC that runs Windows, Internet Explorer is the web browser that comes standard by default.
With a Mac you'll get Safari as your browser of choice.
Both of these are proprietary software and are fine ways to surf the web (was that a diplomatic statement?)
So let's have a look at a couple of others that are pretty good, and free! ('cos we like free stuff)
Mozilla FireFox
is an open source browser that is fast, secure and extend-able. Download is free and there are a bucket load of add-ons and extensions available that allow you to completely customize it.
It works on PC, Mac, Linux and most other operating systems that you probably didn't even know existed.
Templates and skins allow you to customize to a familiar look (IE and Safari) and the add ons and plug-ins give you the scope to tweak your surfing preference to your personal desires.
My fave.
I have a PC, a Mac and another system running Linux and it works like a charm on all of them.
Download and install is extremely straight forward and you can always remove it if you don't like it.
Opera
is another very cool browser with some fantastic features.
Again fast, secure and extend-able Opera can also be used as an email client so you don't have to switch programs to check emails or RSS feeds and stuff. Opera is easily customizable. You can choose among hundreds of skins and
setups, add or remove buttons, toolbars, or change the entire layout of
the browser with ease.
Again, download and install is extremely straight forward and you can always remove it if you don't like it.
Very cool, very easy.
So in a nutshell, don't think that you're chained or 'obliged' to use the browser that your computer came with.
Give FireFox or Opera a try. They're both free and may open up a whole new world of web browsing to you.
You never know, it may just make your business that wee bit more efficient for you.
If you missed the links above you can check out FireFox here
and Opera here .
